Sergeant Joseph Banda has emerged as a source of national pride after representing Malawi as an umpire at the 2026 Africa Netball Cup in Nairobi, Kenya.

Banda officiated several high-profile men’s matches, including South Africa vs Eswatini, Uganda vs South Africa and Kenya vs Eswatini, among others, while being assessed by international officials during the tournament.

His involvement at the continental championship provided Malawi with another opportunity to showcase its officiating talent on the international stage.

The Netball Association of Malawi says Banda’s contribution reflects the growing presence of Malawian officials in major continental competitions and the importance of investing in officiating development.
