Umpire Development Program

The Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) is committed to a systematic upgrading of our officiating standards to ensure every regional and national game is governed with excellence.

Current Achievements

• Grassroots Foundation: Successfully trained over 500 umpires at Level 4 nationwide.

• Advanced Certification: We are actively transitioning top talent to higher grades, recently certifying 23 umpires in Lilongwe and 17 in Mzuzu at Level 3.

• Standardized Officiating: Umpires are now strategically categorized for regional and national duties to ensure consistent rule application across all levels of play.

The Road to International Grading

NAM is focused on identifying and preparing officials for the international stage. Following the recent participation of our officials at the 2025 Region 5 Games in Namibia, we are refining our selection criteria to focus on:

• Age Requirements: Prioritizing young talent to meet international upgrading standards.

• High-Performance Training: Intensive assessment programs to ensure our umpires can compete and excel at the highest global levels.

Upcoming Training Cycles

We are expanding our reach to ensure no region is left behind. Upcoming Level 3 Umpiring Courses are scheduled for:

• Eastern Region

• Southern Region
