NAM to Hire Expatriate High Performance Netball Consultant for the Malawi Queens

The Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) has embarked on a comprehensive high‑performance reset for the
Malawi Queens as part of preparations towards 2026 Commonwealth Games, the 2026 Africa Netball Cup,
Netball World Cup Qualifiers, and the next phase of sustained international competitiveness. This strategic
initiative reflects NAM’s commitment to enhancing tactical performance, strengthening technical capacity,
and building long‑term sustainability, while preserving and enhancing Malawi’s rich and respected netball
culture.

At the centre of this reset is the engagement of international high‑performance expert to work alongside
Malawi Netball’s technical leadership, athletes and support staff. The focus is on modernizing training
systems, strengthening match execution, improving conditioning and mental resilience, and ensuring the
Malawi Queens are fully prepared to compete consistently against the world’s best. The expatriate consultant
will also focus and capacity building and succession planning of six (6) Malawian coaches that will be
identified and embedded into the high‑performance environment, working directly alongside the High
Performance Netball Consultant. This structured mentorship and hands‑on training model is designed to
accelerate technical and tactical knowledge transfer, improve coaching standards across the national
pathway, build a sustainable pool of elite local coaches and ensure long‑term continuity beyond the current
competition cycle. This approach ensures that the benefits of international expertise extend well beyond the
national team, strengthening the broader Malawian netball ecosystem.

The initiative comes at a pivotal moment for Malawi Netball. The Malawi Queens have a proud and respected
history on the international stage, inspiring players and supporters across the country. Following encouraging
performances at the NetballYouth World Cup and the Africa Netball Cup, the focus is now firmly on converting
emerging talent into consistent senior‑level success.

“This is a deliberate and strategic step forward for Malawi Netball,” said President Vitumbiko
Gubuduza.

“Malawi Netball has a legacy that commands respect. This initiative is about honoring that history
while investing in the future and NAM intends to fully prioritize that strategic objective. We are building
on the momentum created by our recent performances and deliberately strengthening our systems,
not only for today, but for generations to come.”

The high‑performance reset prioritises strengthening technical leadership and coaching depth, training and
mentoring local coaches as part of succession planning, enhancing athlete conditioning, mental resilience
and performance analysis, strengthening alignment between youth and senior national teams and creating a
professional, athlete‑centred environment that supports elite performance.

As part of this process, recruitment for a full technical and high‑performance support team is currently
underway, ensuring a multidisciplinary approach that aligns coaching, conditioning, medical, psychology and
performance analysis services. NAM will therefore formally invite applications for the coaching and technical
appointments in the coming days, once all arrangements have been finalised.

Netball remains one of Malawi’s most loved and widely played sports, inspiring communities and young
people nationwide. Strengthening the national team is not only about results on the court, but about sustaining
hope, opportunity and national pride through sport.

As preparations for 2026 gather momentum, Malawi Netball reaffirms its commitment to ensuring the Malawi
Queens continue to inspire the next generation and represent the nation with pride, resilience and ambition.
